Data Loggers
The SOFREL DL4W range groups data loggers designed for drinking water and wastewater networks, built to operate in demanding field conditions: underground installations, flooding risk, and remote sites without supporting infrastructure. These are recording and transmission devices that acquire data from sensors and meters, store it, and send it over 2G and 4G mobile networks or low-power wide-area networks (LPWAN) to a supervision system.
The business problem this category solves is the difficulty of bringing operational visibility to distributed network points where a full remote terminal unit would be disproportionate. Without flow, pressure, or level data at these points, district metering, pressure management, and overflow control depend on manual readings and delayed information.
The range is organized by application. Open Modbus models connect sensors and flowmeters with an RS-485 output; drinking water models support remote meter reading, district metering, and pressure management; and wastewater models are oriented toward flow and overflow monitoring, with continuous device self-diagnostics. Organizations implement them because they replace field visits with continuous, comparable information.
From a digital transformation perspective, each data logger brings one more network point into the supervision system, with compatibility with SCADA and centralization software from both the manufacturer and third parties.

View productA water or wastewater network includes hundreds of points of interest — valve chambers, sector delivery points, manholes, overflow structures — where operational information is valuable but communications and power infrastructure are limited. The SOFREL DL4W data loggers address exactly this scenario: compact, rugged devices that record data on site and transmit it over the communications network available.
How it works. A data logger acquires signals from the instruments connected at the measurement point — flowmeters, pressure sensors, or level sensors — records them at the configured interval, and transmits them to a supervision system over 2G or 4G mobile networks, or over LPWAN networks at sites where low energy consumption is the priority. The range includes devices with an open Modbus interface, which allows sensors and flowmeters with an RS-485 output to be integrated without depending on a single instrumentation manufacturer.
Business value. Having continuous flow and pressure data at sector boundaries makes it possible to calculate water balances, locate losses, and regulate pressure with evidence. In sewer networks, flow and overflow monitoring shows when and how often discharge events occur through relief structures, information relevant to environmental compliance and investment prioritization.
Operational benefits. Drinking water models support remote meter reading, district metering, and pressure management. Wastewater models include continuous self-diagnostics, so the device itself reports its status, reducing verification visits to remote or hard-to-reach points. Their design for underground installations and flooding risk strengthens the availability of data in the conditions where it is needed most.
Technology overview and integration. The range works with the manufacturer's supervision and centralization software and is compatible with other SCADA systems on the market and with third-party applications used by water operators. This makes it easier to add the data loggers to the existing supervision architecture, and to feed district metering platforms, geographic information systems (GIS), and asset management systems (CMMS) through open interfaces.
Typical applications. Remote reading of flowmeters, district metering in drinking water networks, pressure monitoring and regulation, and flow and overflow monitoring in sewer networks.
Related solutions. These devices are a natural component of the Online District Metering solution and complement water quality monitoring in distribution networks and discharge monitoring, by providing the hydraulic data for each point.
Future scalability. By adding points gradually and maintaining a single supervision system, the monitoring network can grow from a pilot project to cover the entire operation, and evolve toward advanced analytics based on the accumulated history.
If your organization is evaluating expanding the visibility of its network with 2G, 4G, or LPWAN data loggers, Marfel's team can help define measurement points and the right communications architecture.
